Egyptian Culture

Other Considerations

  • Just over half of the population (52.45%) is between the ages of 0 and 24. This means that Egyptian society is predominantly young and is adjusting to demographic changes. For men between the ages of 18 and 30, there is compulsory military service for 18-36 months followed by a 9-year reserve obligation.
  • Although many Egyptian women wear a hijab, the law does not officially require them to observe this practice. For many women, it is a matter of personal choice and preserving family honour.
